Outdoor Winter Fun Spots in Henderson and Boulder City

It seems everyone in Henderson & Boulder City is looking for ways to get out of the house this winter! Fresh air is good for the soul — not to mention it helps to get the wiggles out of the kids. 

We put together a list to help you find fun things to do this winter with your family in Henderson & Boulder City (or just a short drive away!) during these next few winter months in Henderson & Boulder City, Nevada: 

1. Black Mountain Hiking Trails

This time of year is the perfect time for fun, family hikes through the hills. The Black Mountain Hiking Trails take you up the side of the mountain, and in most areas you will have a fantastic view of the Las Vegas Strip and surrounding areas. Don’t forget to pack a picnic! Hours vary based on where planning to access the trails. 

2. Dig This 

Dig This is an outdoor attraction featuring large construction equipment you operate. Little kids will have a blast with the Kids Digs and bigger kids have the opportunity to operate bulldozers and other machinery (based on age). Dig This is open daily from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Kids Digs start at $20 and prices vary for other experiences.

3. Clark County Museum

The Clark County Museum offers a way for families to explore the history of our area. The museum features the Anna Roberts Parks Exhibit Hall and Heritage Street, which has eight historic buildings from Clark County. The museum is a great place for kids to run around outside and to learn about the area’s history in a fun, unique way. The museum is open daily from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day). Cost of admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children and seniors. 

4. Ethel M Cactus Garden

The Cactus Garden at Ethel M Chocolate Factory in Henderson is always free for families wanting an outdoor venue to explore. This botanical garden is home to more than 300 species of cacti. When you are done exploring the garden, step inside to see the factory and grab a sample of chocolate. The Cactus Garden is open daily from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

5. Hoover Dam

See why more than 1 million visitors make their way to the Hoover Dam for a chance to drive right across it from Nevada into Arizona. While visiting the dam you can see this historic landmark and learn more about the area. It is free to drive across the dam and to walk around. Parking garage is $10 and tours are available for an additional price.

6. ROAD TRIP!! Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon is the perfect day trip from the Henderson and Boulder City areas. This conservation area offers hiking, exploration opportunities and plenty of time to spend with the family. Cost of admission if $15 per car, reservations in advance are currently being taken to limit capacity in the park. 

7. Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve

Get out and enjoy the weather by planning a visit to Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve. This preserve is home to many birds and area wildlife who come to enjoy the many ponds and trails throughout. The paved pathway is about ¾ mile long and will take you to the perfect place to see all the migratory birds within the preserve. Some birds you might see include warblers, flycatchers, sparrows, and thrushes. Admission is free and hours of operation vary depending upon the time of year.
