Get behind the controls of heavy machinery at Dig This

As a kid, I remember looking at all the heavy construction equipment and thinking how cool it would be to get behind the controls and operate a bulldozer or an excavator. Many years later, we have found a location right here in Las Vegas where you can operate those heavy duty construction vehicles. Where is this magical, adult-sized playground located at? It’s at Dig This Las Vegas and it is so much worth the time to get out there and experience it for yourself. 

Recently, we had the opportunity to experience the Mini Excavator Experience and the Big Dig Bulldozer. From the moment we arrived, we knew it was going to be a unique experience and one we will remember forever. Here is a bit on how our day went:

When we arrived, we had to choose our equipment. I ended up doing the Mini Excavator Experience, while my husband and our son did the Big Dig Bulldozer. Then we took a breathalyzer to ensure we had not been drinking and listened in on a safety orientation. After the orientation, we were off to our machines for an in-cab orientation and time to get familiar with the controllers. 

During the Mini Excavator Experience I learned how to operate my own excavator, dug a gigantic trench, stacked four tires (weighing 2,000 pounds) and played a game of “Bucket Basketball.” I thought it would have been more difficult to operate and maneuver the excavator, but after a brief instruction it was a lot easier than I imagined. It also helped to have someone watching and talking to you every step of the way through the headphones. 

My husband and son said they had fun with the Big Dig Bulldozers where they built huge mounds, pushed gigantic tires and teeter-tottered over a mega mound. They were not much for words afterwards, but I could see it on their faces, they had just as much fun as I did. 

One of the best things about Dig This is how entertaining they make the experience from the moment you walk in the door. There was even a fun award ceremony at the end where each participant received a certificate stating we completed all the exercises without injury. 

From start to finish, Dig This is truly an experience everyone in the area must try. Families, Dig This is for those 8 years of age and older, meaning the entire family can enjoy the Big Dig Experiences. For those with younger kids, you can stop by Dig This too! They have recently added the new Kids Dig Rides, where those ages 4 and up can operate a 1-ton excavator.
