The kids and I decided to make a new Halloween craft each week. For this week, we did mini pillows in various Halloween shapes, using felt and yarn. I chose the moon, my daughter made a cat (complete with real cat hair since felt attracts everything) and my son made a ghost. These can be any shape you want. Bats, pumpkins, witch's hats. And you can add whatever detailing you'd like. Those who are handier than I am with a needle and thread can add details like faces. A simpler way would be to cut out faces with the scraps and glue them on.
Pick your shapes and colors and get as spooky as you want!
Mini Halloween Pillows
What you need:
- Felt
- Scissors
- Pencil (in contrasting colors so you can see the shape)
- Yarn
- Needle with a large enough eye to thread the yarn
- Stuffing
Directions:
1. Draw or trace the desired shape onto the felt.
2. Place on top of another piece of felt (this makes sure you have 2 equal pieces), cut out your pattern
3. Use the yarn and needle to connect the 2 pieces. Sewing with a whipstitch (running the needle through only one side and wrapping the yarn around the edge, as you move diagonally along the side), work your way around the shape, leaving one end open.
4. Use stuffing to fill and stitch up the last side.
Optional: You can either add extra embellishments before assembling or glue pieces on after, just make sure to use appropriate glue for felt.
