Heart Wraps

By Gayle Helton- Henderson & Boulder City Macaroni Kid Publisher February 2, 2022

TIME TO DECORATE FOR VALENTINE'S DAY!

Gather the Family and a few items you probably have around the house for a easy and impressive craft you can use all year long!  These will definitely add some pizazz to your windows or hurricane jars!  Try different colors of reds and pinks. Add some more drama with whites and greys!  You are only limited to your (your kiddos) imagination!

Gather your Materials

You really have at least 90% of these in your craft cupboard, junk drawer or recycle bin. (We don't judge!)

Tape- Simple invisible tape, washi tape, duct tape, heck, glue if you need to!

Scissors- Sewing scissors, kitchen scissors, your kids safety scissors, anything you have on hand

Yarn- Reds, Pinks, Whites and Greys or even multicolored

Cardboard hearts- Use any stiff materials; cereal boxes, old cardstock, heck old cards.  Sinply cut out some hearts. The more sizes the better

Cut a Slit

You need to cut a slit into each heart. I reccoment about 1/3 onto one of the large rounded sides. Do not cut into the middle, that will crush the heart itself when you get wrapping.

Slide yarn in and Secure

Run a small segment of yarn through the slit and secure. Tape down the tail end or glue, if needed.

Wrap the yarn tight.

I wrapped several times in a single direction to continue securing the tail end. Then, go several times in the opposite direction. Continue alternating this pattern until all of the cutout is completely covered in yarn. This is easy enough for kids will a little help.

Leave a loop

Now that your beautiful decoration has taken shape, you are ready to tie off a loop for hanging. Tie the loop overitself and Viola! you have a hanging heart wrap. Not feeling it? No problem!  Just tuck in the tail end of the yarn.

Make more...

Now that you and the kiddos have mastered the heart wrap make more!  Go crazy! Different sizes, different colors, different thickness. Hang in windows, hang on plants or a (if you are like me and have 'dead plant museums') hang on branches of old trees! Hang inside, hang outside! Layer Hurricane Glass and create a Centerpiece. Fill Mason Jars and leave on endtables. Thes heart wraps will last from years to come and everytime you see them, you will remember the time you spent with your family creating the love!
