Summer is quickly approaching, and summer breaks from school are starting. Summer break means, as parents, we will need to find some fun things to keep them occupied. However, finding things to do in the local area may get a bit costly. Do not let the fear of something being too expensive get in the way of you having a fantastic summer vacation with your kids. 

Here are some of our favorite things to do in the Henderson and Boulder City areas with the kids. The best thing about these activities is that all of them cost less than $25 per person to enjoy. 


Atomic Motors

Atomic Motors

Discover how classic cars are restored and preserved to their original beauty at Atomic Motors. This Henderson location is open every Saturday to the public for free tours, corn dogs and sodas. Stop by on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to experience this hidden gem in Henderson. Click here for additional information about Atomic Motors. 



Clark County Museum

Go back in time the moment you enter the Clark County Museum. Play around with the hands-on exhibits and see artifacts from the area up close. Then head outside and see what life was like when the Vegas Valley was starting to develop. Cowabunga Bay

Though admission prices are higher during the day at Cowabunga Bay, you can still go and enjoy the water park for around $25 per person. Summer Nights is a program available through the water park where you can enjoy everything, including the wave pool, multiple slides, a kids’ play area, and restaurants for only $21.95 per person. This admission price is only available during the last three hours of daily operation. Cowabunga Bay is located at 900 Galleria Drive in Henderson.

Henderson Bird Viewing Area

The best thing about the Henderson Bird Viewing Area is that it is free to explore, and it gets the kids out of the house. While there, you will be able to enjoy the preserve with ponds and trails that take you through the habitats of many birds and other wildlife. The Henderson Bird Viewing Area is located at 350 East Galleria Drive in Henderson. Don’t forget to bring a hat, plenty of water and some sunscreen! Oh, and don’t forget your binoculars!




Hoover Dam

The Hoover Dam is free to visit and explore the topside. There is plenty of parking on the Arizona side of the dam that is free, plus there is a great spot to enjoy a picnic with the family. There is a parking garage on the Nevada side that costs $10 per car and is close to everything you will want to see. Cost of the tours to see the power plant is $15 and under, based on age and special discounts. Children three and under are free.

Lion Habitat Ranch

You will fall in love with all of the big cats that call the Lion Habitat Ranch home. Visiting Lion Habitat Ranch is a fun and unique way to see these amazing creatures up close. The cost of admission is $20 for locals, seniors, military, and police officers, $18 for college students, and children three and under are free. Guests will receive one free child (age 4-14) admission, with each paying adult—$ 10 per additional child. 




McCaw School of Mines

McCaw School of Mines is a simulated mine experience offering families the opportunity to learn about mining in Nevada. On the first Saturday of each month McCaw School of Mines hosts The Mine Experience - their open house. Families are invited to come out, explore the mine, and participate in panning. Nevada Southern Railway

Enjoy a train ride with the kids and explore the Museum Pavilion at the Nevada Southern Railway in Boulder City. Train rides operate on weekends, with four different departure times. Train rides last approximately 35 minutes and are a great way to learn about the area’s history. Train fairs are $10 for adults, $5 for children 4-11 years of age, and children three and under are free. Visit the website for a $1 off Adult fare coupon. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

A short 15-mile drive west of Las Vegas will take you to one of the top places for bikers, rock climbers, and hikers to explore. The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers impressive views and an abundance of wildlife. For only $15 per car, you and the entire family can spend the day exploring and taking a break for a picnic.

Sunset Station Strike Zone

Get out and enjoy a game or two of bowling at Sunset Station Strike Zone in Henderson. The price per game per person varies depending upon the time of the week. Prices start as low as $5 per person, per game and shoe rentals are extra. If you only play a couple of games, you can quickly get in and out for less than $25 per person. Hourly rates are available.
