5 fun activities for you and your kids

By Heather Carroll-Landon, Publisher of Macaroni Kid SW Las Vegas & Henderson-Boulder City August 20, 2020

Sometimes it is difficult to find things to do with the kids. Especially with so many events and activities shut down due to COVID-19. Don’t let that get in your way. There is so much you can do with the kids that do not depend on places being open for business. Below I have listed four of those activities and included one you can start planning to experience together (once things open back up).

Enjoy Backyard Camping

Setting up a fun campground in your backyard is a great way to spend time with your kids. Put up tents, tell stories, set a campfire and make s’mores. You can even combine camping with some outdoor barbecue for dinner. You can plan to spend all night out there or just move inside when it’s time to go go sleep.

Go on a Bike Ride, Walk or Hike

Get the kids out of the house for an evening. Even if it is just for an hour or so. Get on the helmets and go for a bike ride around the neighborhood or head out to your nearest hiking path. Go explore and enjoy time with the kids in your own neighborhood.

Look Up at the Stars

Grab a blanket and head out to the back yard or a local park that is open at night. Look up at the stars and try to identify constellations. This is a fun and educational activity you can do with the kids at night.

Explore a Fire Station

Most fire stations offer free tours to children and their families. Kids will have fun interacting with fire fighters and being able to see the trucks up close. I don’t know what child would not be hugging you for days after this fun idea!

Please note: Due to COVID-19, fire stations may not be offering tours. Check with your local fire station to see when and if they will be resuming tours.

Make Candy Necklaces

Kids will have fun playing with their food when you sit in front of the television, watching their favorite movie, making candy necklaces. To make, take a piece of yarn and tape one end to make it easier for your child to thread it through the candy. For the beads, use lifesavers, cereal or anything edible in the shape of a donut. This is a fun wearable snack they can enjoy while watching a movie.

Now … go have fun with the kids and make some amazing memories.
