By Press Release from Henderson LIbraries August 20, 2020

Henderson, NV – Joy Gunn was recently promoted to assistant director of Henderson Libraries. During her 18 years of service to the community library system, she has become an integral part of the Henderson Libraries team. In her new role, Gunn will be responsible for working with public services, information technology, and acquisitions and bibliographic services to coordinate quality library services for the community.

“I am extremely excited about working with all our team members to be able to improve and expand our services,” says Gunn. “The Covid-19 pandemic has provided many opportunities in rethinking how we can safely and efficiently provide our valuable services to everyone.“

Most recently, Gunn served as the digital library manager and assistant information technology manager. She holds a Master of Library Science with specialization in music librarianship from Indiana University’s School of Library and Information Science and a Bachelor of Arts Degree with specialization in music history and literature from University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In addition to her knowledge of both Henderson Libraries and the surrounding area, she also brings a passion for serving the community.

When asked about her dedication to library services, Gunn comments, “I’m always learning something new and am continually involved with a wide variety of ideas and projects. We have an incredible and dedicated team that makes work enjoyable. Though, I believe the best part is being able to contribute to our patrons’ overall quality of life through our multitude of resources and services.

“When I was in fourth grade, I distinctly remember looking up career information about librarians for a class paper, then I forgot all about it. It was not until much later, after getting an undergraduate degree in music and deciding to go to graduate school, that I realized that connecting people with the information they need was what I truly wanted to do with my career.”
