Top reasons why martial arts are important for kids

By Guest Writer, Michele Young, CD Young’s Karate August 6, 2020

What are the most important things martial arts offers? There are most definitely more than a few positive things about training in martial arts. The physical skill development and the consistent focus on life skills, compliment growth in other activities as well.

One of the most important things to consider when choosing any activity to participate in, for your child or yourself, is how it utilizes developmentally appropriate skills so that each individual can have success. Our martial arts programs do that in a personalized way by targeting physical, emotional, social and intellectual skills. The lessons learned in martial arts allow for kids, teens and adults to demonstrate the ability to:

1. Overcome challenges in their life. This happens with learning Integrity, Self-Discipline, Responsibility, Determination and how to Achieve a Goal.

2. Treat others well. We focus on learning how to demonstrate kindness, loyalty, trustworthiness and good sportsmanship.

3. Carry themself with Confidence. Learning how to demonstrate Charisma, Teamwork, Cooperation and Respect for Others.

4. Understanding and Managing Emotions. This leads to developing Courage, Self-Confidence, Patience, Self-Control and Optimism.

At CD Young’s Karate we offer all of the above through our daily classes and in conjunction with our Age Appropriate SKILLZ program. We believe that kids learn best through play which is why we integrate skill based training with age specific activities in order to foster long term growth goals. Positive and Nurturing teaching strategies employed at our karate school allow kids to play, learn and succeed in martial arts and more importantly in their daily lives.
