By Heather Carroll-Landon, Publisher of Macaroni Kid SW Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, & Henderson-Boulder City July 9, 2020

It is important to start kids learning to love the power of reading at a young age. Las Vegas-Clark County Library District understands the importance of reading and getting kids to love books long before they enter Kindergarten. 1,000 Books by Kindergarten is a free program encouraging parents to read 1,000 books with their child before he or she begins school.

Here’s how to participate in the 1000 Books by Kindergarten program:

  • Contact the library to pick up a copy of the log sheet
  • Click here to print out a list of recommended books
  • Read together with your child
  • Write down the titles of every book you read
  • When you reach 100 books, bring in completed sheet to the library for a small prize
  • Pick up your next log
  • When you reach 500 books, bring in completed sheet to the library for a free canvas bag
  • Pick up next log
  • When you reach 1000 books, bring in completed sheet to the library for a free book

It’s as simple as that!
