10 Things to Do With Kids in Boulder City During Winter Break

Winter break has arrived! The kids have been looking forward to time off school, but now all you’re hearing is “mommmmmy, there’s nothing to do!”

Never fear, Macaroni Kid is here! We’ve got a top 10 list of fun things to do in Boulder City while the kids are off school for the holidays. We’re here to help you find your family fun in Boulder City, Nevada!

Boulder Bowl

Hours: Sunday 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Monday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Tuesday 9 a.m.-9 p.m.; Wednesday 2-5 p.m.; Thursday Noon-5 p.m.; Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. & 9:30-11 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.-11 p.m.

Cost: $3 per game; $3 shoe rental

Why you should go: Bowling is a fun way to enjoy time with the kids and have a friendly competition. Boulder Bowl offers open bowling during regular hours and cosmic bowling on Tuesdays and Saturdays. 

Downtown Boulder City

Hours: Hours of operation vary by each location.

Cost: Free to walk around

Why you should go: There are a lot of unique stores in Downtown Boulder City, giving you plenty of places to visit and explore. Take advantage of all the antique stores. We have found these are a great place to talk about history and teach out son something new. 

Hemenway Park

Hours: 24/7, but best to visit during the day

Cost: Free

Why you should go: Hemenway Park offers a lot of things to do outside, including a playground, horseshoe pits, tennis courts and a covered picnic area. Pack a picnic and head on out to the park for an afternoon of play and some fresh air. 

Hoover Dam

Hours: Open Daily 5 a.m.-9 p.m.

Cost: Free to visit; Additional Fee for Dam Tour

Why you should go: Visiting the Hoover Dam offers a fun experience for families to do together. A visit includes driving over the dam, stopping at the overlook on the Arizona side and then staying to take a tour. 

Lake Mead Cruises
490 Horsepower Cove Road, Boulder City, NV 89005

Hours: Multiple cruise options available daily

Cost: Ticket prices start at $30 for adults; $15 for children

Why you should go: Taking a cruise on an old paddle boat on Lake Mead is a fun way to spend an afternoon with the kids. Not only will you see amazing sights along the way, this boat offers a fun setting for unique photos. 

Las Vegas Natural History Museum

Hours: Daily from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; Closed Christmas Day and opens at 11 a.m. on New Year’s Day

Cost: $12 adults, $10 students, $6 3-6 years old, 2 and under free

Why you should go: This museum has it all. Dinosaurs, Mummies, Live Marine Life and more!! Kids will have fun exploring the museum while learning. It may be a bit of a drive from Boulder City, but we highly recommend it. 

Southern Nevada Railway

Hours: Open daily from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Cost: Prices vary depending upon what you are doing. 

Why you should go: A visit to the Southern Nevada Railway offers you the opportunity to show your kids antique trains and then go for a ride on one. In addition to the museum and train rides, the Railway offers other activities and events. Check the website for a list of current activities and prices. 

Rail Explorers
601 Yucca Street, Boulder City, NV 89005

Hours: Tour dates and times vary.

Cost: $85 and up based on type of explorer booked

Why you should go: There is nothing more exciting than riding the rails on a rail explorer. This tour takes you from the Nevada Southern Railway Museum out to Railroad Pass Casino. After the ride, you hop on a train and head back to the museum. This experience offers breathtaking views and the thrill of riding the rails. 

The Flying Saucer (Area 52)
441 Nevada Way, Boulder City, NV 89005

Hours: Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Cost: Free to go in and browse. Prices on items are very affordable.

Why you should go: This is a fun and unique store to shop in. There is something for everyone in every price range. Lots of fun, unique gifts that would make for great stocking stuffers. 

Tom Devlin’s Dinosaur Adventure

Hours: Open Daily 10 am.-5 p.m.

Cost: $10

Why you should go: Step back in time this winter break with the kids by spending the day at Tom Devlin’s Dinosaur Adventure. This location offers an indoor playground, opportunities to ride dinosaurs and plenty of space to run around and burn off some energy.
